In order to raise awareness of these important facts, an exhibition has been designed.

The exhibition would be set up with three screens on the outside of each panel, making a total of six screens. There would be a seat positioned in front of each screen, allowing people to sit and watch the CCTV footage being recorded inside the exhibition. The seats would all be different and associated with old people, including things such as a wheelchair, a commode, a reclining chair with footstool etc. The CCTV footage would be recorded by cameras hidden within the life-sized people cutouts, not by the obvious cameras in the corner of the exhibition. The cameras in the corner would in actual fact be dummies, luring people into a false sense of security, but at the same time creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. In the background there would be a recording of Morse Code being played on repeat, adding to the uncomfortable atmosphere as viewers would feel as though there was something going on that they didn’t understand and weren’t a part of.

The use of cardboard cutouts means that the exhibition could be easily dismantled and re-erected elsewhere, but the positioning of the cutouts could easily be changed. This would give the exhibition a different feel each time, but also makes the cutouts less static. Any 3D props such as bedside tables, or shopping trolleys would not necessarily need to have a fixed position, provided that they were not placed anywhere they could cause an obvious hazard. The interchangeable positions of props make the exhibition setup very realistic.

A ball of wool would be trailed across the floor of the exhibition, extending outside of the 3x3m flooring space, acting as a device to lead people inside to look around. In addition to this, one of the cutouts could be placed outside of the exhibition space, in order to attract the attention of potential viewers.

Other possible 3D props could include a bedside table with glasses, a hearing aid and false teeth in a glass, as well as a coffee table with knitting needles, a newspaper and a packet of Werthers’ Original Butter Candies. In addition to this, a personal shopping trolley could be used, as well as walking aids such as sticks or Zimmer frames.
